Custom Field Properties window

Note: You must be a company administrator to open this window.

You use the Custom Field Properties window to add, edit, or delete custom fields for a Sage 100 Contractor record. You can define custom fields for most Sage 100 Contractor records, except for ledger transactions, accounts, daily payroll, and recurring transactions.

Tip: The Enter custom fields The Custom Fields button icon provides a visual clue that a window supports custom fields.

To open the Custom Field Properties window, you click Edit > Enter Custom Fields, or click the Enter custom fields The Custom Fields button icon on the toolbar.

If no custom fields have been defined for the window, the Custom Field Properties window appears immediately.

If any custom fields are defined for the window, the Custom Fields entry window appears. You can modify an existing field or add a new custom field.

If you want to modify an existing field, click the field, and then either:

  • Press F7, or
  • Click [Modify], and then on the Modify Custom Fields window, click the Edit properties for this field The Edit Field Properties button button.

If you want to add a new custom field, click [Add].

Field Name and Description

You enter a unique name to identify the custom field, using six characters, as well as a description for the field.

Note: You cannot save a custom field with the same name as a custom field that has already been defined for a particular window, and you cannot change the name after you save the custom field.

Field Type

Custom fields are based on field (data) types, so that you can use custom fields in ways that are not possible with user-defined fields (UserDef 1 and UserDef2) available in earlier versions of the program.

Note: You cannot change the field type after saving the custom field.

Other Field Properties

You can use most of the same properties for custom fields as for other fields in Sage 100 Contractor, including security access. Note the following attributes that are particular for character or number-type custom fields:

  • Maximum Value / Minimum Value. If you want to track a standard currency value, you need to set maximum and minimum values. The maximum value must be no greater than 999,999,999 and the minimum value should be no less than -99,999,999, the default values for these fields.

Numeric fields must have a maximum value greater than zero. You cannot use the same values for Minimum Value and Maximum Value.

  • Decimal Places. You can use 0, 2, 4, or 6 decimal places for numeric fields.

  • Character fields. You can use up to 255 characters for character fields. You can accept default entries, although you cannot use Next or Previous as the default.
