Transferring balances from ledger accounts to subsidiary accounts

Important! Before you can transfer the balance from a ledger account to a subsidiary account, you must create the new controlling account and subsidiary accounts or departments.How?

To transfer balances from a ledger account to a subsidiary account:

  1. Open 1-3 Journal Transactions.
  2. In the Trans# box, enter the transaction number.
  3. In the Date box, enter the transaction date.
  4. In the Description box, enter a brief statement about the transaction.
  5. In the grid, create a line that clears the old ledger account’s balance:
  6. In the Description cell, enter a brief statement about the line item.
  7. In the Account cell, enter the ledger account you want to clear.
  8. Enter the amount in the appropriate Debit Amount cell or Credit Amount cell.
  9. In the grid, create as many lines as necessary to move the balance into the appropriate subsidiary accounts under the new controlling account:
  10. In the Description cell, enter a brief statement about the line item.
  11. In the Account cell, enter the controlling account.
  12. In the Subaccount cell, enter the subsidiary account you want.
  13. Enter the amount in the appropriate Debit Amount cell or Credit Amount cell.
  14. Click File > Save.
