About the Takeoff Launch window

Note: This functionality is available only if you have the Estimating Module.

When you click the 9-5 Takeoffs menu, you first see the Takeoff Launch window.

The Takeoff Launch window has two tabs:

  • Job Takeoffs. You use this tab to create a new takeoff or to open an existing takeoff for a particular job.

  • Templates. You use this tab to create a takeoff template or open an existing template. Templates are not associated with particular jobs or clients.

The Job Takeoffs tab

You use Job Takeoffs tab to create takeoffs and to modify existing takeoffs. You can also use it to display client and job information.

  • Use the Job# box to identify the job for which you want to create or modify a takeoff. If you do not know the job number, click the lookup "" button beside the Job# field to select from a list of jobs.
  • To view details about a selected job in the 3-5 Jobs window, click the detail "" button beside the Job# field.

To open an existing takeoff, double-click a takeoff on the grid to open it in the 9-5 Takeoffs window.

Tip: You can sort the list by:

  • Last Edited Date
  • Job Number
  • Job Name
  • Edited By

Click the heading of the column you want to sort by once or twice to sort in ascending or descending order.

If the takeoff does not exist, you can create a takeoff for an existing job, or you can create a new job "on the fly." (For steps, see Starting a new takeoff).

The Templates tab

You can save and use templates that contain all the data you need to generate takeoffs. Takeoff templates enable you to:

  • Set up templates that represent typical job estimates with parts and costs from your database that you can update, adapt, and assign to different jobs in future.

  • Set up alternate cost scenarios using templates and bid items (active and inactive), enabling you to prepare alternative bids before you assign the template to a job.

Note: Because Inactive bid items are not part of the database, you can set bid items inactive, so they are not displayed in the grid or used in calculations. The ability to mark bid items as active or inactive at any time enables you to set up templates with options and elements that you can swap out easily, depending on the job. When the template contains all the options and items you need, you can assign it to a job estimate, at which point only the active items are saved to the job takeoff.

You use the 9-5 Takeoffs window (similar to the 9-5 Takeoffs window) to create, modify, and apply templates as you would to create a regular takeoff, with a few differences.
