Creating a new SQL Server instance
If you need to create a new SQL Server instance (for example, if you want to move your Sage 100 Contractor archive companies to a different drive on your computer), use this tool to create a new SQL Server instance. When you use this tool to create a new instance, the program configures the instance using the settings that Sage 100 Contractor requires.
Important! The version of SQL Server on the new instance should be the same or a later version than that used for your Sage 100 Contractor data.
To create a new SQL Server instance:
- Start Database Administration and connect to your current SQL Server instance.
- Click Server Management > Create SQL Server instance.
-
Fill out the fields on the Create SQL Server Instance tab:
-
Enter a name for the new SQL Server instance. You can use up to 16 characters for the new instance name.
Note: The name cannot start with a space or a $ sign.
-
Enter the setup file for the SQL Server installation. Browse to the location where you stored the SQL Server installation files, and then select the executable file.
If you installed SQL Server Express when you installed Sage 100 Contractor, this will likely be the Sage 100 Contractor download folder—for example, C:\Sage100Con\Downloads\SQLEXPRADV_v64_ENU.EXE.
-
Select the checkboxes for the access and communication options you want to enable for the new instance.
If you are allowing access to the new instance only for approved applications:
- Click [Edit Approvals].
- In the Enable Access from Other Applications window, select the checkboxes for the applications that are allowed to connect to the instance.
- Click [OK].
-
-
Click [Create instance].
After creating an instance
- The next time you open Database Administration, the Connect window includes the new instance.
- You can move company data to the new instance. Follow the instructions in Moving Sage 100 Contractor companies to a new SQL Server instance.
